VIDEO: California Caregiver Exposes SEIU 2015 for Coercion and Silencing Members

Dallas, TX — In a video released today by the Freedom Foundation, Chaquan May, a California mother and in-home healthcare provider for her medically fragile daughter, exposes how SEIU 2015 has ignored, coerced, and trapped her in union membership against her will.

May recounts how, despite multiple attempts to opt out over the past two years, the union continues to withhold dues and refuses to acknowledge her requests.

She also details the intimidation tactics she faced when she first encountered SEIU representatives.

“I encountered the union at the (In-Home Supportive Service) orientation,” May explained. “They locked us in a room, which was odd to me because I had never been in a situation like that. One of the head union workers hovered over me at the table and stood there and told me, ‘What are you waiting for? Just sign it.’ I honestly felt scared and just went ahead and signed it out of fear.”

May’s story reflects a growing movement among caregivers across California speaking out against union coercion and demanding accountability and transparency from SEIU 2015.

Earlier this year, the Freedom Foundation filed a class action lawsuit against SEIU 2015 on behalf of a dozen IHSS workers, including May.
