For the second year in a row, the largest union representing Washington state employees has lost more than 1,000 members, thanks in large part to the ongoing outreach efforts of the Freedom Foundation to help of workers understand their right to opt out of paying union dues.
With annual union dues averaging around $1,000 per member, the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE, AFSCME Council 28) stands to lose over $1 million in revenue in the coming years.
This is a significant win for Washington residents, especially considering WFSE spent $1.1 million last year on progressive politics and lobbying, much of it directed toward far-Left PACs and initiatives that continue to drive up the state’s taxes and reshape its social climate.
As the cost of living rises and taxes continue to climb, more public employees are taking control of their paychecks and choosing to save where it matters most.
One worker put it succinctly, “This money should be used to pay for my kid’s tuition, not WFSE’s politics.”
Through consistent education and outreach, the Freedom Foundation is helping public employees across Washington understand their constitutional right to stop paying union dues and keep their hard-earned money where it belongs, in their own pockets.
