New Video Exposes How Unions Trap Public Employees in Membership

Dallas, TX – The Freedom Foundation today released a new video exposing the deliberate obstacles unions place in front of public employees trying to exercise their constitutional right to leave.

The two-minute video tracks a public employee’s journey from union enrollment through a labyrinth of confusing paperwork, restrictive opt-out windows, and deliberately obscure procedures designed to keep members from leaving. The animation reveals tactics that effectively trap employees in unions they no longer wish to support.

“Unions deliberately make it nearly impossible for workers to opt out,” said Aaron Withe, CEO of the Freedom Foundation. “They bury opt-out information, create arbitrary time windows, and use intentionally confusing language to prevent employees from exercising their First Amendment rights. This isn’t about protecting workers—it’s about protecting union revenue streams.”

The Freedom Foundation is committed to holding unions accountable for deceptive membership practices and ensuring public employees know their constitutional rights.
