VIDEO: Utah Teachers’ Union Caught Lying About Political Spending

Dallas, TX — In a video released today by the Freedom Foundation, Cole Kelley, a public school teacher of 29 years and member of the Utah State Board of Education, exposes the Utah Education Association’s false claims that members’ dues are not used for political activities.

Kelley details the UEA’s leftist agenda and spending practices—including how the National Education Association (NEA) uses the $200+ it receives annually from each Utah member to fund tens of millions in political spending, with $28 million directed to the NEA’s advocacy fund and nearly $1.4 million to the Democratic National Convention.

“I’ve tried to make sure that fellow schoolteachers—not just in my school but in my district and throughout the state of Utah—are aware of what these organizations stand for,” Kelley explained. “There are a lot of us out there who are not afraid to speak out and to stand for the values that we think will benefit the students and the public education system.”

The lawsuit, filed Jan. 13 in Utah’s 3rd District Court, alleges at least six written statements made by UEA since late 2024 were knowingly false and constitute deceptive trade practices in violation of Utah’s Truth In Advertising Act.
