
Records obtained by the Freedom Foundation from Gov. Jay Inslee’s office under the state Public Records Act indicate the governor worked with government unions during the 2018 legislative session on legislation intended to undermine public employees’ First Amendment rights.
The largest state employees’ union in Washington claims it hasn’t lost members since the Supreme Court made dues payment optional in June. In fact, government data sources show that, after Freedom Foundation outreach, 20% are no longer supporting the union financially.
One of the many misguided proposals working its way through the Washington State Legislature this session is SB 6079, a bill that would exempt the birth dates of public employees from being released under the state Public Records Act (PRA).
