When the New York Times Admits School Closures Were Bad – They Were Really, Really Bad

“It seems every month there is increasing evidence that Randi Weingarten’s rewriting CDC guidelines to keep public schools closed longer has had nothing but disastrous effects on an entire generation of school children,” said Aaron Withe, CEO of the Freedom Foundation. “When the New York Times is forced to admit that schools were closed for too long, didn’t help slow the spread of COVID, and resulted in years of learning loss, discipline problems, and increased absenteeism in public schools, you know you have a big problem.”

“What was done to our nation’s children was criminal, and yet no one has been held accountable for the institutional and generational damage inflicted upon their educational success and their future potential,” concluded Withe. “Randi Weingarten and the other major teachers’ union bosses are most at fault for treating the kids like pawns in their political game, and we will pay for their power grab for decades to come.”
