Last fall, the Freedom Foundation’s Pennsylvania outreach team began conducting in-person teacher roundtables that brought together K-12 educators from across the Commonwealth who sought information on how to break free from their out-of-touch teacher unions.
These events quickly gained popularity as word-of-mouth spread the news. By the beginning of 2022, dozens more teachers were asking to participate.
To date, there have been six roundtables held, with at least 20 more scheduled over the next few months.
These teachers have watched as:
- school board meetings have become increasingly contentious;
- unions have ignored the wishes of their own members by supporting mask and vaccine mandates;
- concerned parents have been labeled “domestic terrorists” and subjected to the sort of scrutiny that used to be reserved for dangerous criminals; unions ignore the profound damage done to students by “distance-learning” and demand that school districts continue to keep students out of class — not because of COVID-related safety concerns but as a tool with which to demand concessions they can’t win at the bargaining table; and,
- the unions’ have insisted their divisive Critical Race Theory curriculum be taught to public school students whose test scores in traditional subjects like English, history, science and mathematics plummet even further every year.
Teachers are tired of being thrown under the bus and used as scapegoats by their unions, and they’re desperately looking for answers about how to fight back.
The Freedom Foundation unequivocally stands with teachers and parents who put students before social agendas and politics.
We will continue to aid teachers who seek to send a message to these unions and withhold dues deductions so that their hard-earned money will no longer be used to push a radical agenda they don’t support.
