At the Freedom Foundation, we fight for the rights of public employees — the same voices unions often try to silence.

And in New Jersey, those voices are growing louder.

So far this year, more members of the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) have canceled their union dues than in any previous year — and that’s just within the first four months.

Why? Because members are seeing more clearly than ever what their dues are funding — and it’s not the workplace advocacy they were promised.

One former member — a teacher with more than 130,000 followers on TikTok and Instagram — asked a simple, brutally honest question about how union dues are being used.

Instead of a response, his comment was deleted by NJEA’s social media team.

No explanation. No accountability. Just censorship.

Another teacher put it bluntly:

“The only communication I’ve had with NJEA is when they take union dues out of my paycheck.”

Meanwhile, educators across the state are dealing with larger class sizes, fewer resources and rising costs — all while being bullied into paying dues that make NJEA one of the most expensive unions in the country.

Where is all that money going?

Members deserve transparency and a say in how their contributions are used. But many are realizing the union’s top priority isn’t them — and it certainly isn’t the classroom.
