Blistering opt-out pace continues

The Freedom Foundation is proud to report back-to-back record-breaking months in May and June, each surpassing 5,000 union opt-outs. That’s more than just a milestone. It’s a momentum shift.

In just 60 days, nearly $10 million in member dues were redirected away from union coffers and back into the hands of the people who actually earned it.

But this isn’t just about a single high-performing month. It’s part of a much larger story.

In the first half of 2025 alone, the Freedom Foundation has helped more than 25,000 workers opt out of their unions. That puts us on pace for 50,000 total opt-outs this year — a 25 percent increase over last year’s all-time high.

Since the Supreme Court in 2018 issued its ruling in Janus v. AFSCME affirming the right of public employees to decline union membership and dues, the Freedom Foundation has empowered more than 225,000 of them — depriving unions of an estimated $635,399,703 in no-longer-compulsory support.

As we head into the Independence Day weekend, it’s a fitting time to reflect on what real freedom looks like. It’s not just the fireworks and the flag — it’s the daily, ongoing defense of the liberties that make this country worth celebrating in the first place.

The work isn’t done. The forces trying to undermine freedom never take a day off, and neither can we. But these victories remind us that the battle is not only worth fighting — it’s winnable.

The Freedom Foundation continues to play a leading role in that struggle because if we want a stronger America tomorrow, we have to keep building it today.
