CALIFORNIA: The records just keep falling

The Freedom Foundation’s California outreach team extended its streak of record-breaking months by helping 2,500 public employees opt out of union membership and dues.

This just in: Californians are sick of their public-sector unions and are looking to ditch them at a growing rate.

What carried us over the edge this past month? Apart from our usual success through millions of digital impressions and hundreds of thousands of pieces of mail, and old standby — emails — proved to be highly successful.

Innovation was the key factor. A new and refined email service system, which has been months in the making, resulted in higher-quality emails and higher open rates.

We saw incredible success with two unions in particular via email — SEIU  Local 1000, which represents state workers, and SEIU Local 221- County of San Diego workers, an audience previously harder to reach out to.

As a result of a public records campaign to San Diego County, the California team acquired several thousand new records to reach out to this smaller SEIU local.

For SEIU Local 221, on one single day we generated 75 opt-opts with our email campaign, essentially opening a new “front” for our mission.

Whether through mail or email, we will make sure our message reaches every public-sector worker of California.

And when workers are simply able to hear our message, workers are empowered to exercise their First Amendment right.
